Communion

a Poem by soma

you came
dressed for an offering,
smoke on your tongue and
sugar on your lips—

i feel so much lighter with you—gone,
a blade behind my eyes and
craving in my chest.

filled,
a temple up in flames and
bloodwine in my lungs.

something shimmers out of reach
as my body breaks to breathe—
crystals on your teeth
and venom in the fever.
